Wheat...White wheat markets came out of the extended weekend holding
mostly firm to Friday's close, with strength in the deferred positions.
Carries widened to reflect spreads of 15 cents between spot delivery and
November. Japan will be in the market this week seeking 4.8 mb of wheat
for November delivery. The tender includes 2 mb of western white and red
winters from the US; 1.1 mb of Canadian springs and 1.5 mb of Australian
white wheat.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed loading activity off the
west coast registering a modest improvement over last week. White wheat
shipments came in at 4.4 mb, topped by loadings for South Korea and the
Philippines. Total hard red spring wheat movement was reported at nearly
5 mb, with 2.9 mb shipping off the PNW.
Crop Progress...US spring wheat harvest is reported 76% complete with
North Dakota right on the average pace at 80% done. Montana continues to
be the laggard, standing at 38% complete and less than half the average
pace. The US barley crop is 78% harvested.
